At the end of Day 3: England lead by 231 runs with 7 wickets remaining. BJ Watling † scored 85, C de Grandhomme 72, TG Southee 50 and N Wagner 24. New Zealand all out with 278 runs in their first innings in 93.3 overs. SCJ Broad took six wickets and JM Anderson took four. England faced 66 overs in yesterday’s play and scored 202 runs with three wickets down. AN Cook scored 14 runs, MD Stoneman 60, JM Vince 76, JE Root (c) 30 not out and DJ Malan 19 not out. TA Boult took two wickets and TG Southee took one.

New Zealand won the toss and elected to field.
