Bangladesh vs Netherlands T20 World Cup Highlights – 24 Oct 2022

Scott Edwards: Bowlers were amazing, they were 10-15 short. The run-outs were poor, but Colin and Edwards did well. We’re looking forward to the India challenge.

Shakib Al Hasan: It was an important win, I’ve played all editions but haven’t won. We were 10 runs short but the way our pacers bowled was tremendous. We understand the importance of fast bowling now, across formats. We’ve found talent, Hasan’s new, and Taskin’s developed well in the past few years. We want to be the best fielding side given we have a young team. We have the belief that we can save 5-10 runs which can make a big difference.

Taskin Ahmed, POTM: It’s a good win for us and we needed it. We played well as a team, happy to have contributed. (On the first two balls) I stuck to my basics and saw there was movement in the first innings. So I bowled Test-match lengths. (On his learnings with and from Allan Donald) I can move the ball both ways, that was the main focus. I worked on that coming into the World Cup.

Pitch and conditions: Teams have averaged 156 runs batting first at the Bellerive Oval, but the teams may not be able to play a full match. There’s a lot of rain in the forecast from around the time the match starts on Monday.

Bangladesh vs Netherlands Highlights today. 17th Match, Group 2 (D/N), Bellerive Oval, Hobart, Monday 24-10-2022, ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.

Toss: Netherlands chose to bowl first.

Scott Edwards: “We’ve seen throughout the first round that teams have done pretty well chasing, there’s obviously a little bit of weather around as well, so that’s what we’re thinking. [Not content with just getting through?] The first goal was just to get through [to the Super 12s] and now it’s about competing and winning some games of cricket. [Roelof van der Merwe’s injury] He’s in recovery but he’s not playing today. We’ve got Shariz Ahmad coming in for him and Logan [van Beek] coming in for Timm [van der Gugten].”

Shakib al Hasan: “[preparations?] We got here late to Hobart, but we had very good preparations in New Zealand. We’re a well-prepared team, but just need to perform on the day. [fast bowlers] The fast bowling group is one of the most improved in our squad, they’ve been doing really well in the last three-four years. I’m hopeful they will do well. [how important is your role] It’s very important. Not only performance but how I guide the team. There are a lot of young players who will look up to the seniors, but regardless we all have to perform equally well to win today.”
